BIREFRINGENT OPTICAL FILM, ELLIPTIC POLARIZING PLATE USING THE FILM AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE USING THESE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a birefringent optical film having both high orientation property which easily gives a desired phase difference value, and a small photoelastic coefficient.

SOLUTION: The film includes two or more kinds of polymer materials and the total sum of the products of photoelastic coefficient Cn of the materials and their volume fraction Wn satisfies an equation 1 below. The film includes at least respective one kind of polymer material having a photoelastic coefficient value of ≥60x10-8cm2/N and polymer material having a negative photoelastic coefficient value. The equation 1 is Σ(Cn×Wn)≤20×10-8cm2/N.
