PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a groove measuring instrument that can measure the shape error of a three-dimensional cam groove. SOLUTION: This groove measuring instrument is provided with a control computer C which finds the locus of a stylus 20 which moves in a state where the stylus 20 is brought into contact with the groove 15a of a work 15 based on the data measured with a rotary encoder 60, a vertical scale 70, an auxiliary vertical scale 48, and a horizontal scale 80 and measures the difference between the found locus and the preset locus of the groove 15a as an error.
