The invention relates to wax dispersions whose mean particle size ranges from 0.5 to 100 mu m. Said dispersions contain (a) a wax phase whose melting point is higher than 25 DEG C and which contains at least one oil component or a wax component selected from dialkyl (ene) ether, dialkyl (ene) carbonates, dicarboxylic acids or fat hydroxylated alcohols or any mixture of said substances and at least one type of emulsifier, and (b) a water phase. The inventive dispersions are particularly suitable for paper or serge coatings
