摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the control unit for a continuously variable transmission for cars which can prevent a reduction in durability due to slippage of the power transmission member of the continuously variable transmission on the occasion of start on a sloping road having a gradient larger than a predetermined one. <P>SOLUTION: The control unit includes belt clamping force modification means 148 (SA4, SA5) which modify the clamping force of a transmission belt 56 by a pair of variable pulleys 52 and 54 in the case where it is predicted that the car is on the sloping road having a gradient larger than a predetermined one, and that an interrupting device such as a first clutch C1 is switched from the power transmission cut-off state to the connection state. Therefore, it is possible to start the control for preventing the slippage of the transmission belt 56 before the switching of the interrupting device such as the first clutch C1 is performed.
