<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a golf club head by which a soft hitting feeling can be obtained without decreasing the carry capacity of a ball such as resilience. <P>SOLUTION: For a region a1 at the central part on the back surface 24 of a face member 14, the average thickness is set to be 2.2 mm. In the toe 34 direction of the region a1, a region a2 of which the thickness is thinner than that of the region a1 is adjacently provided, and in the toe 34 direction of the region a2, a region a3 of which the thickness is thinner than that of the region a2 is provided. At the end part in the toe 34 direction, a region a4 which is thinner than the region a3, and of which the average thickness is 1.7 mm is provided to be adjacent to the region a3. In the meantime, in the heel 36 direction of the region a1, a region a5 which is thinner than the region a1 is adjacently provided, and in the heel 36 direction of the region a5, a region a6 which is thinner than the region a5 is provided.
