PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light weighted (having a small bulk density) and water repellent granular inorganic fiber cotton wool suitably used as a heat insulation/sound-absorbing material for especially a wall or ceiling in a blowing method, and preferably having a recovery power and capable of being conveyed in a compressed package, and a method for producing such granular iorganic fiber cotton wool in a good productivity at a low cost. SOLUTION: This water repellent granular inorganic fiber cotton wool is obtained by attaching a liquid state organohydrogenpolysiloxane and liquid state silicone-curing catalyst, and preferably further resin emulsion in forming a fiber from molten inorganic material, before lowering the remaining heat of the formed inorganic fibers to a normal temperature for forming a cured silicone film by the remaining heat of the inorganic fibers, gathering as cotton wool and granulating.
