PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering device capable of detecting motor current of an electric motor with proper resolution to realize satisfactory steering assistance by an inexpensive configuration. SOLUTION: This device transmits driving force of the electric motor M to a steering mechanism 3 to assist steering. Current flowing in the electric motor M is detected by a current detection circuit 20. This current detection circuit 20 is provided with a variable gain amplifying circuit 22 capable of changing gain, and its output signal is inputted into an A/D conversion input port 11 of a microcomputer 10. A gain change part 34 increases gain of the variable gain amplifying circuit 22 when motor current is very small and reduces gain of the variable gain amplifying circuit 22 when motor current is not very small.
