1,200,275. Measuring thickness, electrically. POLSKA AKADEMIA NAUK, ZAKLAD DOSWIADCZALNY BUDOWY APARATURY NAUKOWEJ UNIPAN. Dec.10, 1968 [Dec.15, 1967], No.58509/68. Heading G1N. The thickness of a moving metal sheet 3 is measured by passing it between open ends 2 of a micro-wave cavity resonator 1 which is bent so that its ends face one another and measuring the effect on an electrical property of the resonator. In Fig.3, the resonator 9 is connected to an octopole bridge 7 energized from an amplitudemodulated micro-wave generator 6. A reference dipole 8 including attenuation and phase adjustments or a similar resonator having a standard sheet between its ends is connected to the arm of the bridge opposite to the resonator 9. The bridge output is connected via a variable attenuator 10 to a detector 11 which includes a display meter. The dipole 8 or attenuator 10 may be adjusted automatically to maintain a constant detector output or the detector output may be used to control a process manufacturing the sheet. The resonator ends may be provided with choke flanges (14), Fig. 6, (not shown) or dielectric inserts (18) Fig.7, (not shown) . |
