Deposit administration method, especially for drinks containers, in which standard drinks containers are marked with code numbers from a limited store or numbers. The numbers are then used to collect a deposit with the use of a code number reported to the deposit administration arrangement. In a final step when items are returned for the paying out of a deposit the arrangement determines whether the code number belongs to the initial code number store and so whether a deposit is liable.
