New polybutylphenyl phosphate esters and their salts have 1-3 (substituted) phosphate groups, 1-3 polyisobutene groups and 0-4 other substituents attached to a benzene ring. Polybutylphenyl phosphate esters (A) of formula (I) and their salts are new: R1 = -O-P(=O)R4R5; R4, R5 = halogen, OR6, SR6, NR6R7 or a group of formula (III); R6, R7 = H, 1-20 C alkyl, 2-4000 C alkyl with O, S and/or NR8 group(s) in the chain, aryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl; or NR6R7 = a ring; R8 = as R6, R7; R2 = polyisobutene; R3 = OH, 1-24 C alkyl, 1-24 C alkoxy or halogen; a, b = 1-3; c = 0-4; a+b+c = 2-6. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) preparation of (A); (2) various compositions containing (A) or the composition (B) prepared by the cited method.
