A novel quaternary ammonium salt compound having antibacterial activity, characterized by being represented by the following general formula (1): General formula (1) wherein Py represents an optionally substituted pyridine or fused pyridine ring; R1 represents optionally substituted C6-18 alkyl bonded to the nitrogen atom of Py; z is 0 or 1; m is 1, 2, or 3; n is 0, 1, or 2; and X2 represents an anion.
