<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water electrolyzer, especially, one that needs no gas/liquid separation tank and can give highly pure oxygen and hydrogen even under no gravity with avoidance of contamination with liquid water. <P>SOLUTION: The water electrolyzer has an electrolytic cell formed by stacking (1) a compartment A having a water charge means, (2) a fluororesin based ion exchange membrane, (3) a compartment B having a hydrogen discharge means and packed with a spongy cathode, (4) a fluororesin ion exchange membrane plated with platinum, iridium, rhodium or an iridium-rhodium alloy, (5) an anode made of porous titanium plated with platinum, and (6) a compartment C having an oxygen discharge means in the given order. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
