<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high temperature splash plate 604 as a specular optical reflector to be used in combustors 40, 400 of a gas turbine engine 10. <P>SOLUTION: A thin layer 516 of a high temperature reflector is deposited on the surface of the splash plate 604. This component typically includes a thermal barrier coating 514 covering a high temperature metallic component to permit high temperature operation of the component. To form a surface 515 adaptable to properly reflect radiation into a gas flow path, the thermal barrier coating should be polished. Then, the thin layer of the high temperature reflector is deposited on the polished thermal barrier coating 514 in a method of properly adhering the reflector 516 to the polished surface without increasing the roughness of the surface 515.
