PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical information recording and/or reproducing device whose reliability can be secured. SOLUTION: This optical information recording and/or reproducing device is provided with: a power source 280 for moving a vertically movable member 273 mounted with a spindle motor 204 and arranged so as to be movable in a moving direction almost perpendicular to a recording medium face; a power transmitting member 279 provided between the power source and the vertically movable member; a position detecting means 283 for detecting a state in which the vertically movable member has moved to a predetermined position; a rotation detecting means 291 for detecting the rotation of a recording medium; a control means 207 for allowing start of focus search or focus control on the basis of detection signals respectively outputted from these detecting means; and an energizing means 281 for elastically pressing a portion of the vertically movable member onto the surface of the power transmitting member while the vertically movable member stops at least at a predetermined position. When the vertically movable member moves to and stops at the predetermined position and the energizing means is elastically pressing a portion of the vertically movable member to the surface of the power transmitting member, the control means is made to operate.
