PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spindle motor control method and a device therefor which achieve stable driving control of a spindle motor even when a data read speed from a recording medium is changed from a standard speed to a high speed. SOLUTION: In the spindle motor control method and a device therefor for controlling the driving of the spindle motor which drives a recording medium rotatably on the basis of a signal read from the recording medium, a reference signal as a reference of driving-control and the signal read from the recording medium are inputted to an error signal generation means to generate an error signal. This error signal is limited to a fixed region and inputted to a control signal generation means, thereby generating a control signal for controlling the spindle motor. In particular, the error signal generation means generates an error signal by using a signal which is created by frequency-dividing the signal read from the recording medium. Alternatively, the error signal generation means generates a read synchronization error signal by each signal read from the recording medium, and the read synchronization error signal is averaged to obtain the error signal.
