PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new guanamine compound and a flame-retardant resin composition having high flame retardance. SOLUTION: The new guanamine compound represented by formula (1) (R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>3</SP>are each a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; X is a hydroxy compound residue, a thiol compound residue, an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom) is produced by reacting a compound represented by formula (2) (Y is a nitrile group or an X<SP>1</SP>-CO; X<SP>1</SP>is a hydroxy group, a chlorine atom, an alkoxy group or an aryloxy group; n is an integer of 1-6) with dicyandiamide or a biguanide in the presence of a basic catalyst.
