PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress noises made during the self-diagnosis of a hydraulic unit without increasing the size of the hydraulic unit. SOLUTION: This self-diagnostic system of a brake controller has a wheel cylinder for distributing braking forces to each wheel according to the master cylinder pressure supplied from a master cylinder through a main communication path, a pump for sucking the brake fluid from the master cylinder through a side communication path and applying pressure to the wheel cylinder through the main communication path, first and second main communication path switching valves placed in the main communication path for the intermittence of the pump and the master cylinder, and first and second side communication path switching valves placed in the side communication path for the intermittence of the master cylinder and the pump. The self-diagnostic system opens the first and second main communication path switching valves when activating the pump for the self-diagnosis. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
