PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heterodyne interferometer capable of being produced at a cost lower than conventional ones and measuring displacements and velocities of a high-speed mobile object. SOLUTION: The heterodyne interferometer is provided with a laser light source 101 which emits two beams of laser light in the longitudinal mode having lasing frequencies different from each other under a condition being not supplied with a magnetostatic field strongly.
