The present invention provides methods for preventing or reducing chemotherapeutic agent-induced thrombocytopenia. These methods comprise administering an effective amount of a thiol-containing compound or composition (e.g., sodium thiosulfate and N-acetylcysteine) to a subject in need thereof.
