The exhaust gas sensor has a metal oxide gas sensor which operates at a temperature above the exhaust gas, with electrical feed wires, mounted on a carrier to be placed in the exhaust gas flow. The carrier has an opening through it to accommodate the sensor. The carrier surface is treated to protect the electric wires from exhaust gas corrosion, and their contacts are outside the gas flow.
