METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONTINUOUSLY MEASURING BIOCHEMICAL OXYGEN DEMAND(BOD) USING MICROORGANISM WITH SHORT MEASUREMENT CYCLE

PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for continuously measuring biochemical oxygen demand(BOD) using a microorganism are provided, which method and apparatus have a measuring cycle of 1 hour, improved reproductivity, and easy maintenance due to continuous cultivation of a microorganism. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for continuously measuring biochemical oxygen demand(BOD) using a microorganism comprises (i) a sample tank(2) containing a short sample introducing pipe, an overflow hole and an air pump(6); (ii) a medium tank(3) storing the culture medium; (iii) a mixing tank(4) containing a medium introducing pipe through which a medium is introduced from the medium tank(3) using a medium pump(7), a sample introducing pipe through which a sample is introduced from the sample tank(2) using a sample pump(9) during measurement, a sample introducing pipe through which a sample is introduced from the sample tank(2) using a culture pump(9) during cultivation to mix the medium and the sample solution, and a discharging pipe to discharge the mixed solution into a reaction tank(1); (iv) the reaction tank(1) containing a microorganism, a temperature/dissolved oxygen sensor(16) and heater in the upper part, and an air hole and a mixed solution introducing hole in the bottom which is positioned on a magnet stirring device(5); (v) an upper reaction tank containing a cover having a level sensor, an air hole and a syringe pump(15), and a sample releasing hole in the side; and (vii) a microprocessor(12).
