Removing downhole filter cake

Filter cake comprised of a gelling agent and calcium carbonate is removed from the walls of an open hole well bore by contacting it with a delayed clean-up solution comprised of water and a formate ester. The filter cake can be formed during drilling using a drilling fluid comprising a gelling agent and calcium carbonate.
