PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing esters including compound esters and polyesters, particularly, a method for producing the esters having a very sharp molecular weight distribution by transesterification, and more particularly, a method for producing esters whereby the chain extension of a reaction product having ester linkages and having terminal OH groups can be performed by transesterification, and esters having a very sharp molecular weight distribution around a desired degree of polymerization can be produced. SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing an ester by reacting a reaction product comprising an ester composition (RO(COACOOXO)nH) (n>=1) formed by reacting a dibasic acid (HOOCACOOH) with a diol (HOXOH) and a terminal alcohol (ROH) in a reduced pressure of 100 mmHg or below in the presence of a titanium catalyst. The above reaction product may further contain an ester compound represented by the formula: R'O (COACOOXO)nCOACOOR' (wherein R's, which may be the same or different from each other, are each an alkyl that may be the same as R). |
