WASHING MACHINE WITH APPARATUS FOR DETECTING FLOATING OF LAUNDRY AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF

PURPOSE: A washing machine with a floating detecting apparatus of the laundry and a control method thereof are provided to prevent lowering of washing efficiency, damage of the laundry and water waste by restricting water from scattering with detecting floating of the laundry. CONSTITUTION: A washing machine is composed of an outer case; a water tub(2) placed inside the outer case; a tub cover(8) installed in the upper part of the water tub; a washing tub(3) rotated and installed inside the water tub; a driving motor(7) rotating the washing tub; and a detecting unit detecting the height of the laundry in the washing tub. The detecting unit has a light emitting part(50a) formed at the side of the tub cover installed in the upper part of the water tub, and a light receiving part(50b) installed opposite to the light emitting part. A transparent protection baffle is installed around the light emitting part and the light receiving part.
