PURPOSE: A method for controlling/driving a pickup in a disk drive is provided to control a motor driving voltage for moving a pickup to rise when an overload is generated from the pickup in a seek mode, thereby executing a stable servo control even when the pickup has the overload. CONSTITUTION: A system sets initial values for a driving voltage in a normal load state and a driving voltage in an overload state(301). The system decides whether the disk drive enters a seek mode(302). If so, the system determines a value of a driving voltage for a sled motor, and drives the sled motor(303). The system monitors a load state of a pickup as driving the sled motor(304). The system decides whether a tracking error signal exceeds a threshold voltage or a switching-on sensing signal is generated by a limit switch(305). If so, the system varies the value of the driving voltage for the sled motor(306).
