PURPOSE: A control device of a steering column for a vehicle and a method thereof are provided to rescue a driver conveniently by restricting the driver from holding between the steering column and the seat with adjusting the tilt angle of the steering column optimally at a collision. CONSTITUTION: A control device of a steering column of a vehicle is composed of a sensor unit(10) detecting the collision of the vehicle, and outputting the signal according to the collision; a driving unit(20) adjusting the tilt angle of the steering column according to the signal from the sensor unit; a control unit(30) outputting the driving signal for actuating the driving unit corresponding to the signal from the sensor unit; and a manual operation unit(40) having an up-switch(41) and a down-switch(42), and increasing or decreasing the tilt angle of the steering column by a driver.
