PURPOSE: A multi-stage passenger airbag is provided to minimize the injury of a passenger by automatically controlling the inflation of a cushion according to the load and shape of a passenger. CONSTITUTION: A multi-stage passenger airbag is composed of an inflator(52) for generating gas, a diffuser-shaped lower housing(54) holding the inflator and diffusing gas, an upper housing(56) coupled to the front of the lower housing and fixed to a vehicle body, a retainer(60) fixed to the upper housing and having a gas emitting port(58), a cushion(62) installed at the retainer and inflated by emitted gas, and an output control unit(78). The output control unit controls the inflation of the cushion according to the load and shape of a passenger. |
