PURPOSE: Ascorbate peroxidase from Capsicum annuum L. cv. Hanbyul induced by plant pathogens, genes encoding the same and a method for detecting plant defense response using the same genes are provided, which genes are useful as markers for detecting plant defense response, and are used for producing plants having improved tolerance to plant pathogens. CONSTITUTION: The ascorbate peroxidase encoding genes from Capsicum annuum L. cv. Hanbyul induced by plant pathogens that is expressed by plant pathogens or plant disease tolerance inducing materials have the nucleotide sequences set forth in SEQ ID NO:1 and SEQ ID NO: 3, wherein the plant pathogen is one selected from Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria, Phytophthora capsici and Colletorichum gloeosporioides; and the plant disease tolerance inducing material is salicylic acid or hydroperoxide. The method for detecting plant defense response comprises the steps of: infecting a plant with Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria; detecting expression of genes encoding ascorbate peroxidase or peroxidase; and measuring the activity of total peroxidase and accumulated amount of hydroperoxide.
