PURPOSE: A method of writing and updating an optimal unlatch profile for a hard disk drive is provided to write an optimal unlatch profile appropriate for characteristics of a hard disk drive, to update the written profile, and to input acceleration/deceleration currents to a VCM(Voice Coil Motor), thereby effectively performing an unlatch process. CONSTITUTION: A system writes an optimal unlatch profile appropriate for characteristics of a hard disk drive(S200), and records the written unlatch profile on a maintenance cylinder or an outer guardband cylinder(S210). The system downloads the unlatch profile to a buffer of a microprocessor from the maintenance cylinder or the outer guardband cylinder(S220). The microprocessor downloads the unlatch profile to a flash ROM(S230), and updates the stored unlatch profile(S240). The microprocessor decides whether the unlatch profile is an optimal unlatch current waveform(S260). If so, the microprocessor decides the updated unlatch profile(S270).
