PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape which is excellent in high density recording and which can cope with the demand for a large capacity of a magnetic tape with small error rates. SOLUTION: A magnetic layer is constituted of a layer which contains ferromagnetic powder whose average particle size is equal to or larger than 5nm and is less than 100nm and whose thickness is equal to or less tha 0.09μm and a base layer is made in a construction which consists of a plurality of layers including an upper layer which is made adjacent to the magnetic layer and which contains nonmagnetic flakes and an under layer which contains conductive particles and nonmagnetic flakes are contained in the upper layer of the base layer of these upper and underlayers.
