PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size of a charger by effectively restraining a temperature rise in a power circuit. SOLUTION: Temperatures of a battery and the power circuit are detected (S12, S18), and temperature rise values are calculated from the detected temperatures (S14, S20). From the detected temperatures and the determined temperature rise values, the map of an allowable current value is searched to determine allowable current values Ia, Ib (S16, S20), and by comparing both of them with each other (S24), the smaller one is taken as an allowable current value for the charging of the battery (S26, S28). From the map obtained by mapping based on the temperature and the temperature rise value of the power circuit, the allowable current value is searched to control a charging current, thus effectively restraining the temperature rise in the power circuit, reducing the size of the charger, and performing charging in a relatively short time with the temperature rise in the battery restrained.
