<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor memory in which output control of data and synchronizing operation of a notification signal indicating whether a state is in a suspend-state or not can be performed based on an output control signal performing a suspend-function in continuous read-out of data, and to provide a control method for the semiconductor memory. <P>SOLUTION: When an output enable-signal/OE is shared as a suspend-instruction, the output enable-signal/OE is synchronized with a clock signal CLK by a synchronizing circuit 1 and a synchronizing output enable-signal OEB-SYNC is outputted. The synchronizing output enable-signal OEB-SYNC is supplied to a ready control circuit 2 and an output buffer circuit 3, and output control of data output and a ready signal RDY is performed synchronizing with the clock signal CLK. It can be notified that a state is shifted to a suspend-state matching with the shift of a data terminal to a high impedance state in synchronism with the clock signal CLK.
