PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly efficient light source emitting light having a controllable wavelength and having an organic EL material easy to manufacture as a base material. SOLUTION: This light emitting device 10 is provided with a light emitting element 20 which comprises two electrodes, at least two electroluminscent (EL) materials 30, 25, 35 disposed between the electrodes, a charge blocking material disposed between the electrodes, and one or more kinds of photoluminescent (PL) material 50. The light emitting element 20 emits electromagnetic (EM) radiation of a first spectrum in response to a voltage applied across the two electrodes 22, 23. The PL material 50 absorbs a part of the EM radiation emitted by the light emitting element 20, and emits EM radiation of a second spectrum which is different from the first spectrum. Each of organic EL materials 20, 25, 35 emits EM radiation in either one of a blue color wavelength region or a red color wavelength region. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
