PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transport a recording medium smoothly and stably at all times by preventing the recording medium from application of an excessive pressure even in case a deformation is generated to a certain extent in the leading edge of the recording medium and thereby enabling the second transporting means to pinch the recording medium certainly. SOLUTION: The second transporting means 12 is arranged so that the pinching pressures of stellate spurs 6a and 6e at the ends located in the outermost about the main scanning direction are set higher than the pinching pressures of other stellate spurs 6b-6d within the range lower than the pinching pressure of the first transporting means. If the leading edge of the recording medium 1 is deformed downward when the leading edge has reached the second transporting means 12, the edge is going to push up the spurs 6, but because the pinching pressures of the stellate spurs 6a and 6e at the ends to pinch the corners of the leading edge of the recording medium 1 are set to a proper size for correcting the deformation of the corners of the recording medium 1, and it is pinched by the second drive roller 5 and the stellate spurs 6 in the condition the deformations are corrected, and transportation is conducted in the ideal condition.
