PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the recording speed of an image output device, to improve the productivity of image outputs, and to make an image output device compact to reduce costs. SOLUTION: In an inkjet printer which carries out recording on a recording paper intermittently moved in a vertical scanning direction by moving, in a main scanning direction, a carriage which carries a recording head with a plurality of nozzles arranged in the vertical scanning direction, in the case where next image data is determined after an image region of a printing segment finishes, and also a line feed width of vertical scanning is determined, the vertical scanning is started to feed the recording paper to a next printing line. In this case, a starting timing of main scanning is calculated on the basis of a calculation formula before the vertical scanning is started. After the vertical scanning is started, a time is measured by a timer or the like, and the main scanning is started when the time reaches a main scanning activation starting time. The main scanning is started before the vertical scanning stops, and printing in the main scanning is carried out simultaneously with the stop of the vertical scanning.
