<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control unit and a method for a coin processor which are easily capable of performing alteration of various kinds of functions of a coin processor and various kinds of settings, such as a reference value deciding the specie or various sorts of timer values, and rewriting of control software. <P>SOLUTION: When an IC coin 20 in which various kinds of settings or the control software are stored is charged in the coin processor 3, it reaches an antenna part 21. An antenna 22 reads information stored in the IC coin 20. When an antenna control unit 17 recognizes that the information is setting information for alternating various kinds of settings, a control unit 9 performs processing for altering the setting stored in a setting storage part 19 into the setting read out of the IC coin 20. Also, when it recognizes that the information is the one that has rewritten the control software, the control unit 9 rewrites the control software stored in a ROM into the control software read out of the IC coin 20.
