<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte membrane-electrode junction body suitable for operation in high humidity, by smoothening the surface of a carbon fabric non-woven fabric used for a gas diffusing base material of a high polymer electrolyte fuel cell, and by optimizing it so that paint for forming a water-repellent layer is inhibited from unevenly infiltrating into it. <P>SOLUTION: This electrolyte membrane-electrode junction body is composed of a high polymer electrolyte membrane and a pair of electrodes holding the high polymer electrolyte membrane between them, and the electrode is composed of a catalyst layer in contact with the high polymer electrolyte membrane and a gas diffusing layer having a water-repellent layer in contact with the catalyst layer. A cloth-like carbon fabric woven fabric woven by warps and wefts of electron conducting carbon fabrics is used for the base material of the gas diffusing layer, and openings are formed at the crossing points of the warps and wefts. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
