PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin and light-weighted collet chuck which rotates at high speed, and a bar supporting device employing the collet chuck. SOLUTION: The bar supporting device 10 includes: the collet chuck 12 having holding parts divided into odd-numbered parts; a sleeve 13 including a tapered surface; members 14 and 15 for coupling a sleeve with a driving member; and a cap 11 covering an end side face of the sleeve and including a vertical surface in contact with the vertical surface of the collet chuck. Since the collet chuck is short, the device is shortened and reduced in weight. In addition, since the chuck is divided into nine parts, holding force is improved and can rotate at high speed as centripetal force works to a workpiece. Further, the position of the holding part of the chuck is regulated/determined by surfaces of the sleeve and the cap and the chuck is in plane contact with the workpiece, thereby improving the the holding force, making the chuck resistant to flaws, and reducing fluctuation.
