PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent video recording from being stopped and terminated halfway and to prevent favorite contents from being lost in a hard disk recorder. SOLUTION: This hard disk recorder is provided with an automatic elimination function means for automatically eliminating contents video recorded in an HDD (hard disk drive) and an automatic elimination prevention setting means for setting automatic elimination prevention of the contents. Automatic elimination prevention of user's favorite contents is set. When remaining capacity for recording of the HDD becomes equal to or lower than a prescribed value during a video recording operation, the hard disk recorder performs the automatic elimination function, selects contents about which the number of reproduction times is minimum and the date and hour of video recording is the oldest (#11, #12 and #13) with respect to contents about which the number of reproduction times is one or more (yes in #10) among contents to which automatic elimination prevention is not set (yes in #9), eliminates the contents (#14) and secures recording capacity of the HDD.
