PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of reading an image with high definition and to provide an image reading/recording apparatus provided with the same. SOLUTION: A white reference member 25 is located in opposition to an image read means 22 for reading the image of an original 12 at a prescribed interval to form a gap G1 through which an original 12 passes between the white reference member 25 and the image read means 22. When the image read means 22 reads the original, the image read means 22 reads the white reference member 25 and the original 12 at the same position by passing the original 12 through the gap G1 while being pressed into contact with the white reference member 22.
