CONTROL TRAFFIC COMPRESSION METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize bandwidth efficiency related to real time control protocol (RTCP) traffic and to shorten an interval of RTCP report/feedback.

SOLUTION: The method for compressing control traffic in media data transmission using a real time transport protocol (RTP) and a real time control protocol (RTCP), is employed particularly in real-time or near-real-time multimedia delivery in an Internet protocol (IP) network within the allocated fractions of the available session bandwidth. The method includes the steps of initially transmitting a context parameter to initialize the context of a control traffic flow and using the compressed control packet as needed to update the context during the session.
