PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photosensitive optical fiber which can have an excellent fiber grating formed even when a core is thermally diffused. SOLUTION: The photosensitive optical fiber which has the core and a clad covering the outer periphery of the core and has the fiber grating formed by irradiation with ultraviolet rays is characterized in that the core contains a photosensitive dopant increasing a refractive index and an assistant dopant increasing the refractive index increase sensitivity of the photosensitive dopant and a domain of the clad which is close to the core contains the assistant dopant.
