PURPOSE: An apparatus for controlling the driving of an electromagnet for an electromagnetic chuck is provided to improve a voltage control function by electronically controlling a DC(Direct Current) source and an AC(Alternating Current) source supplied to the electromagnet. CONSTITUTION: A key panel(1) is comprised of plural keys for selecting all sorts of operations of a machine tool for a milling and a grinding. An electromagnet power setting unit(6) sets a power level supplied for magnetization of an electromagnet(4). A demagnetizing voltage and speed setting unit(7) sets a power level supplied for demagnetization and it sets a demagnetization speed of a workpiece fixed on the electromagnet. A CPU(Central Processing Unit)(3) drives a rectifying and switching unit(8) to control power for the magnetization and demagnetization of the electromagnet according to the operation of the key panel. The rectifying and switching unit rectifies AC power under the control of the CPU to supply it as power for the magnetization of the electromagnet. After completing the work, the rectifying and switching unit demagnetizes the workpiece fixed on the electromagnet. A display(2) displays an operation condition of the machine tool driven by the CPU.
