<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the formation of cracks and to improve durability by accelerating sintering of the monolithic refractory. <P>SOLUTION: The monolithic refractory containing serpentine or talc is composed of, by mass, ≤2% CaO, 1-15% MgO, 0.05-5% SiO<SB>2</SB>and the balance being Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and other inevitable components.
