PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the relation between the degree of detail of a map to be displayed and positioning accuracy so as to reduce a sense of incongruity projected to a user by its display when a position is displayed in the map in a car navigation system. SOLUTION: In the case of accuracy priority mode in the car navigation system, the map to be displayed is provided with any one of scales 1-3 of a low degree of detail in standard positioning mode, and the map to be displayed is provided with a scale 4 of a high degree of detail in high-accuracy positioning mode. In the case of map priority mode and using any one of the scales 1-3 for displaying a present position, standard positioning mode is used, and, in the case of using the scale 4, high-accuracy positioning mode is used.
