PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the smear problem wherein noise signals are mixed in signal charges obtained by receiving long-wavelength light while the charges are being transferred. SOLUTION: The photoelectric conversion section and charge transfer section of a solid-state image pickup element have laminated structures. In the photoelectric conversion section, a first photoelectric conversion 21 and a second photoelectric conversion 22 which receives light having a shorter wavelength than the light received by the first photoelectric conversion 21 has, are adjacently arranged through a potential barrier section 12. Under the first photoelectric conversion section 21, a reading-out gate 42 is provided to transfer the charges generated in the first photoelectric conversion 21 to a charge transfer 50 provided under the second photoelectric conversion 22.
