PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new distribution system of a medium for solving problems (excess and deficiency of titles and time and labor of returning) of a conventional rental business for a video tape or the like by utilizing a scrambling processing technique and a network technique in a technique applicable to a new distribution system of a medium such as a DVD and a CD storing video images and sound, etc., in a scrambling technique in particular.

SOLUTION: An information storage medium 5 stores imperceivable data for which perceivable data are scrambled and a descrambling key indicating whether or not the perceivable data can be generated by descrambling the imperceivable data. The descrambling key includes period data indicating a specified period during which the perceivable data can be generated.
