PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhancing sensitivity of an air-fuel ratio sensor 16 with respect of exhaust of each cylinder and to uniformalize contact of the exhaust gas to a catalyst carrier. SOLUTION: Branch portions 5-8 for respective cylinders of an inline four-cylinder internal combustion engine are connected to a downstream side exhaust pipe 9, and a catalyst converter is connected to its downstream end. The downstream side exhaust pipe 9 has an appearance of a single pipe but is divided into a pair of flow passages 1, 12 by a central partition wall 10, which are a semi-circular shape in cross section. The respective branch portions 5-8 are connected to each occupy a quadrant area. The air fuel ratio sensor 16 is inserted from an outer surface in a position along the partition wall 10 and is partially exposed to the respective flow passages 11, 12. A slit 21 serving as a communication opening is perforated in the partition wall 10. The slit 21 is inclined so that its portion near the air fuel ration sensor 16 is situated downstream, and exhaust gas of Nos. 1 and 2 cylinders is diffused to an air fuel ratio sensor 16 side.
