PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data monitoring method and apparatus that are free from causing a fetch miss of monitoring data even when the traffic of communication data between apparatuses is high, and further facilitate retrieval of the monitoring data before and after the occurrence of failures. SOLUTION: The method includes a monitoring data memory saving step 1a for monitoring a communication bus 4 between apparatuses and cyclically storing the monitoring data on a memory 2; a monitoring data storage step 1b for storing the memory saving data in nonvolatile recording media such as an external storage device 5; and a monitor control step 1c for controlling the starting and stopping of the step 1a, as well as the starting of the step 1b. The step 1c executes only the step 1a in normal monitoring, and when the monitor is stopped, the step 1a is stopped, and also the step 1b is started. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
