PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording method and a recorder in which normal recording results can be attained even upon occurrence of an abnormality in a recording element by complementing the recording element and recording can be carried out while suppressing lowering of throughput when the recording element is complemented. SOLUTION: In an image recorder for recording an image on a recording material while moving a recording head and the recording material relatively in the main scanning direction and the subscanning direction, a normal recording element facing an abnormal recording element records an image based on image data superposed by an image data superposing means. Every time when one or a plurality of recording areas of the recording material are recorded, subscanning feed pitch is varied and normal recording elements facing the abnormal recording element are switched sequentially thus distributing recording elements for complementing the abnormal recording element to normal recording elements.
